When you start out as a new yoga teacher,
there are a lot of moving parts with which you’re unfamiliar. The sequence, how
to describe each pose, assisting students, managing the environment and
feeling the confidence to speak from your heart are all things you’re
navigating.
Steps to
follow for making your Yoga Workshop a success:
1) Determine which is best whether it is conducting
the workshop alone or with some other teacher. If the other person is good at rehabilitation
it is an added advantage to you both since both can start a workshop together.
2)Check out for good locations. If you plan to conduct
the workshop in some garden check out whether it is OK to do so without disturbing
the public there. If you plan to rent a studio
check out which is the minimum budget
available. This can help you in planning your work well.
3)Advertise your workshop well. Plan out for good
attractive flyers or postcards. Post online with a good website. Ask your
students to help you out by handing over some postcards to them to distribute. Word
can be passed from mouth too.
4)Obtain a proper insurance coverage for your
workshop. Should not run helter-skelter at the last minute. This helps you and
your students to feel more secure.
5)Draft an outline for the workshop. Include the
timeline for each section. If you are presenting with someone else, discuss how
much time is needed for each subject of your workshop. Do not expect to start
on time. Allow for about 10 minutes at the start for late-comers to arrive and
other delays.
6)Remember to offer free or donation-based events
every year. Not everyone is able to attend workshops and also pay for classes
and private lessons. Offering even three seasonal free classes each year at the
beach or at the park is a way to thank your regular students and meet new ones.
7)Perform a puja (ceremony) in the room if you
can. You do not have to light candles, incense or sage. This can be a good way
to start especially if elder people are invited.
Taking the time to develop a
teaching plan will help you in your growth and keep your professional
development on track and can make your yoga workshop a grand success.
